For business or craft,
The tools you need to succeed!
At the main library, you will hear the whirring of machines. It’s the sound of learning and comes from “TechConnect,” an environment for people to connect with others and create meaningful projects using technologies and tools that might not be easily accessible otherwise.
TechConnect has 4 high powered computers–2 iMacs and 2 Dells, a Fusion3 3D printer, a Curio Silhouette Digital Cutter, GoPro cameras, and advanced engineering and design software to design and create.
Among the activities you can participate in are:
- Classes on technology and tech tools
- One-on-one sessions by appointment
- NCWorks Career Specialist on hand weekly (Wednesdays from 10 am – 2 pm)
- Robotics Lab Hours
- Monthly STEAM classes
- 3D scanning
- 3D printing
- Digital Cutting
- GoPro cameras and audio/video graphic design/editing applications
In addition to library staff, the Western Piedmont Council of Governments partners with us by sending an NCWorks career specialist once a week. Another partnership with the Manufacturing Solutions Center offers access to professional tools, software applications, and training.
TechConnect is a place where anyone can explore new technology as well as design, prototype and build inspired ideas from start to finish.
Independent use of equipment and specialized 3D printing and cutting is also available by reservation, with nominal costs for printing and cutting.
TechConnect is made possible through a grant awarded by the State Library of North Carolina through funding from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.
